About Hunting in New Mexico

There are two different types of deer you’re able to hunt in this state. One of which is the Rocky Mountain mule deer and the other desert mule deer. Rocky mountain mule deer are found in the northern two thirds of the state and desert mule deer in the southern third.

Essentially it is the mission to conserve, regulate and protect the wildlife using a sustainable use for food, recreation and safety. The reason we are conserving is because generations will be able to enjoy the fun for everyone. With funds for hunting, trapping and fishing service are far extended beyond simple patrolling for poachers.

Highly qualified biologists use science to manage the state’s wildlife for more than 100,000 hunters and 800,000 enthusiasts to enjoy. More than 100 skilled and professionally trained conservation officers to keep people wildlife and property out of jeopardy.

Small Game: Squirrels, Oryx, Ibex
